About

Ricardo (Dócari) Loaiza

A watercolor world, painted by hand — and by heart.

Welcome to Dócari Studio, the creative home of Ricardo Loaiza, a watercolor artist and illustrator from Ecuador.

In a world that moves fast and feels increasingly disconnected, my art is an invitation to slow down — to reconnect with emotion, nature, and presence through the delicate medium of traditional watercolor.

Dócari is more than just a name — it’s an anagram of my own. A quiet symbol of how personal this journey is. Every piece you see here is painted by hand, and born from intention.

Why Watercolor?

Because watercolor is alive.

It flows, it breathes, it surprises you. It captures the soft strength of a fox, the quiet wisdom of an owl, or the energy hidden in stillness. It’s a medium of honesty — subtle, expressive, and emotionally open.

I’ve explored many creative paths — from pencil and ink, to digital illustration and design — but watercolor always pulls me back. It’s the one medium that feels like it paints with you, not just for you.

My Path

I’ve been drawing since I was a child — inspired by my older siblings and the animated characters I loved growing up. I won my first drawing contest at six years old, and from that moment on, I became the “kid who could draw.” But even then, I knew I had more to learn.

Art has always been part of me, though my creative journey has taken many shapes. I studied music in Argentina, explored graphic design, interior design, web development, art direction, and even marketing — always circling back to creativity. The turning point came in Spain, while studying editorial illustration. There, I discovered watercolor for the first time. It felt like home.

There were challenges too. Living and creating in Ecuador, I’ve seen how difficult it can be to build a life around art in a culture that often sees it as optional. I’ve also faced a chronic cervical illness that limited my physical work for years. Still, through everything, I kept drawing, painting, and growing.

Today, I paint to connect — not to critique. I once obsessed over the concept behind every piece, trying to fight systems with symbolism. But now, I believe that beauty has power. That art in someone’s home should offer peace, not more chaos. That nature, quietness, and emotion are worth preserving — in life, and in paint.
